The Moose Lake Motel is a total loss after a fire tore through the structure Wednesday morning.
When firefighters arrived at the motel, at 85 Arrowhead Lane in Moose Lake, around 11:40 a.m., flames could be seen coming through the roof and heavy smoke was billowing out from both ends, Moose Lake fire chief Jim Michalski said.
Michalski said the fire was contained at about 3 p.m. but crews were still on scene Wednesday evening. The motel had 14 units and a living quarters for the caretaker. Three were rented out at the time, but no one was injured, Michalski said.
âCarlton (Fire Department) brought their ladder truck, which helped out a lot because the fire was mostly in the attic,â he said.
Assisting at the scene included Carlton County Sheriffâs Office, Moose Lake Police Department and Carlton, Barnum, Kettle River, Sturgeon Lake and Willow River fire departments.
