Monday's weather: Partly cloudy with rain on horizon

Sunday's rain chance paid off better than expected at least in Duluth, where a third of an inch fell. I thought only a quarter at best would come. That knocks our rain deficit to about an inch and a quarter for October.

Sunday's rain chance paid off better than expected at least in Duluth, where a third of an inch fell. I thought only a quarter at best would come. That knocks our rain deficit to about an inch and a quarter for October.

Now that the growing season is ending, the rain becomes a little less important and could actually become a liability in the spring. Saturated soil at spring thaw aggravates flooding.

A little more rain could be with us on Tuesday but today should be a sunny day. This is not really because of a high, but because we're between lows.

Monday's high temperatures should go from the upper-40s in northern MN, to about 50 in the Ports, to 57 around the Hayward area. The winds should be westerly from 5 to 10 mph.

Tuesday's rain chance will be 50 percent for another potential quarter of an inch. By Wednesday morning, it could be cool enough for a couple of flurries to mix in. By Wednesday afternoon, a few more days of dry weather in the 40s should arrive.
