MnDOT to hold second open house for Hwy. 61 project in Two Harbors

The Minnesota Department of Transportation will hold a second public open house on Tuesday to discuss the proposed resurfacing and safety improvement project for State Highway 61 in Two Harbors.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation will hold a second public open house on Tuesday to discuss the proposed resurfacing and safety improvement project for State Highway 61 in Two Harbors.

The open house is scheduled for Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. at the Two Harbors Community Center. Project layouts and other displays will be posted and MnDOT officials will be on hand to answer any questions the public may have.

If there is a large group at the start of the meeting, a MnDOT representative may give a brief overview of the project and take questions from the group. This first open house was held Feb. 7 and many community members attended the event. Tuesday's presentation will be the same as the one given last month.

The most recent plan presented shows improvements to the Highway 61 and Highway 2 intersection to include left turn lanes, right turn lanes and through lanes in every direction to help alleviate traffic congestion. The plans also show varying parking widths on the 600 block of Highway 61 along with additions of shortened left turn lanes each way at Seventh Street and Waterfront Drive.

The project is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2018.
