A homeless encampment in green space above Interstate 35 through downtown Duluth has been taken down and secured by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, said a spokesperson on Thursday.
The area along the 700 block of East Superior Street is being cleaned up and fenced in, said MnDOT’s Stephanie Christensen.
“It was dangerous for people to live up there,” Christensen said. “We worked with the city to try and relocate people who were living there.”
MnDOT had known about the area for some time, receiving complaints about trash and drug paraphernalia.
The bill to clean and secure the area was expected to be roughly $25,000.
