Missing Hibbing man hitchhikes home

A man with mental-health issues who demanded to get out of a car driving along U.S. Highway 53 in the Canyon area and then walked into the woods has returned home unharmed.

A man with mental-health issues who demanded to get out of a car driving along U.S. Highway 53 in the Canyon area and then walked into the woods has returned home unharmed.

Theodore Wilen, 32, walked away from the car he was a passenger in at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday. The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office began a search and asked for the public's help in finding Wilen.

Deputies reported this morning that Wilen walked out of the woods and then hitchhiked to his home in Hibbing "safe and sound."
