OLIVIA — A 69-year-old man from rural Fairfax, Minnesota, died after a tree branch struck him Tuesday near Olivia.
In a news release, the Renville County Sheriff’s Office said it received a 911 call requesting an ambulance after a tree had fallen on a man at 10:43 a.m. Tuesday at an address on 320th Street in Henryville Township, southwest of Olivia.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Blair Anderson, 69, of Fairfax, on the ground near several downed trees.
According to the release, Anderson was wearing head, eye and ear protection.
Further investigation revealed Anderson was cutting down several trees in a grove on a rural farm site when a large branch connected to another tree broke off and struck him.

Medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, but Anderson died of his injuries.
The Renville County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Olivia Ambulance Service, Olivia Fire and Rescue, Olivia Area Technical Rescue Team and Life Link III.
