Math On-A-Stick? Go figure.
It’s a numbers game for one of the Minnesota State Fair’s many new attractions that have been dreamed up for the 2015 late-summer festivities.
Fair officials have calculated that attendees would be attracted to an area of study that is so daunting for too many to count.
Math On-A-Stick was announced Wednesday with other new doings at the fair. They include a four-story funhouse with a New York City theme and figure skating day (Aug. 31) at Carousel Park as an appetizer run-up to the U.S. championships in January at Xcel Energy Center.
At Math On-A-Stick, visitors can count their way through the fairgrounds on a number game scavenger hunt, play with geometric and reptile-shaped tiles to create designs and patterns, and discover how math can be creative in activities led by visiting mathematicians and artists who use math in their careers.
And for the numerically challenged, the fair is also rolling out History On-A-Schtick. This original show brings Minnesota history to life. The mosquito, a blueberry muffin, wild rice, a walleye and other state symbols hold a fashion parade, and Betty Crocker hosts the Cereal Bowl trivia contest. Fair guests can test their Minnesota know-how and win prizes.
This year’s Great Minnesota Get-Together runs from Aug. 27 to Labor Day, Sept. 7. For more information about the new attractions, tickets and more, visit http://www.mnstatefair.org .
