The Minnesota News Council will meet in St. Paul on Thursday to consider a complaint against KBJR-TV, Channel 6, from Tony Sheda, the father of the late U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Adam Sheda.
Tony Sheda filed a complaint in December related to a broadcast by the Duluth station titled "The War at Home." He said the story sensationalized his son's death and unfairly featured Adam Sheda in a story on post-traumatic stress disorder.
KBJR contends its coverage was fair and accurate.
The Minnesota News Council, formed in 1970, considers complaints against news organizations and evaluates them to determine whether coverage is even-handed and accurate. The council is composed of 24 voting members -- half journalists and half laypeople.
Participation in News Council hearings is voluntary, and the body's rulings are purely advisory, producing no sanctions.
