CROSBY, Minn. - A Crosby man allegedly recorded and narrated 40 videos of his neighbor through her bedroom window while repeatedly sexually harassing her.
Bradley D. Fordyce, 65, Crosby, is set to appear Monday in Crow Wing County District Court for his plea hearing in the series of incidents from which he’s facing one felony and two gross misdemeanor charges.A mid-April report to the Crosby Police Department of an inappropriate note apparently left by Fordyce was the latest in series of complaints to police from the victim, who’d also recently made multiple reports of indecent exposure by the man in his yard and through his open window. An officer met with the victim and secured two handwritten notes that she found taped to the door inside her porch at her residence after taking a short walk to a nearby gas station. The only way to access this door is to enter the victim’s porch. The victim advised the officer she suspected Fordyce also had a surveillance camera in his home pointed at her bedroom window. The officer went to speak with Fordyce, who refused to open his door or come out to speak with the officer, instead opening a storm window on a screen door and crouching to talk through it. Fordyce allegedly admitted to placing the notes on the victim’s door to the officer, stating he was sick of her complaining about seeing him through his window. According to the complaint, Fordyce said if the victim didn’t like it, she should keep her curtains closed. He then went on to say he left the notes to attempt a consensual act with the victim, to which the officer responded by asking Fordyce why he thought it would be consensual after she’d called police twice in the past week to report his inappropriate conduct. In both cases, officers spoke with Fordyce and told him the victim was offended by his behavior. The officer walked alongside Fordyce’s residence and observed what appeared to be a camera pointed at the victim’s residence. Fordyce told the officer it was only an LED light, although the officer observed what appeared to be video cables attached to the light. The next day, the victim met with police again and described some of Fordyce’s conduct in greater detail. She told police she was concerned because it did not seem to matter to Fordyce how many times police spoke to him about his conduct. While enroute to the jail, Fordyce apparently told the officer he was the real victim in the incidents and he had hours of video surveillance showing his neighbor watching him out of her bedroom window.Officers obtained a search warrant for Fordyce’s residence and for any equipment and files located following those comments, the officer’s observations and the victim’s reports. Inside Fordyce’s home, officers located eight TV monitors connected to surveillance cameras. One of the cameras was apparently pointed at the victim’s window.Officers reviewed the video footage and found 40 short videos of Fordyce narrating what the victim was doing as he monitored her residence. In some of the videos, Fordyce described using infrared video to see into the victim’s dark bedroom.Fordyce was charged by the Crow Wing County Attorney’s Office with felony second-degree burglary of a dwelling, gross misdemeanor stalking and gross misdemeanor interfering with privacy through the installation or use of a surreptitious device.Fordyce has previous felony convictions for growing and possessing marijuana plants and also was convicted of indecent exposure in June 2002 in the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area.In that incident, Fordyce was observed sunbathing in the nude near his van, with which he was camping permanently in the area at the time. A Minnesota Department of Natural Resources conservation officer witnessed Fordyce’s nudity and realized he was in plain view of a family with two small children, part of a group diving in a nearby lake. That report noted Fordyce had another previous conviction for indecent exposure in 1997.
