Scanners cracked with reports of fires across Northeastern Minnesota on Wednesday under sunny skies, strong winds and continued dry pre-green up conditions.

Scanners cracked with reports of fires across Northeastern Minnesota on Wednesday under sunny skies, strong winds and continued dry pre-green up conditions.

Several fires continued to burn in northwestern Minnesota, including a fire near Menahga in Wadena County. The Green Valley Fire had burned 7,100 acres but was contained within a fire line, officials said. The Red Cross opened two shelters for evacuated residents.

On the Red Lake Reservation, the Buffalo Ranch fire had burned about 4,900 acres and was reported at 80 percent contained while the River Road fire had burned another 1,600 acres.
