Weather: Forecast calls for a low of 19 early Saturday, with scattered sprinkles and a high of 39 degrees. The wind will be from the east about 5 to 10 mph. The temperature will drop to about 28 under partly cloudy skies Saturday night, and Sunday's high is expected to be about 46.

Deer population: Very high, at 1.3 million statewide

Deer stand reminder: Construction or use of permanent deer stands is not allowed in Superior or Chippewa national forests. Permanent stands may be constructed on state or county lands as long as they're not "structures," with sides and roofs.
New this year
* Tagging -- Deer may be moved from the site of kill by dragging, carrying or carting to a motor vehicle or camp without being tagged, provided the validated tag is in the possession of the person moving the deer. At all other times, the validated tag must be attached to the deer.
* Baiting -- Baiting rules have changed. Hunters are not allowed to use bait or hunt in the vicinity of bait that the hunter knows about or has reason to know about, or hunt in the vicinity where bait has been placed within the previous 10 days. Check Page 70 of Minnesota Hunting and Trapping Regulations for details.
* ATVs and snowmobiles may be used on private lands at any time of day during the deer season.
