Families looking for additional food assistance to help feed their children this summer have additional time to apply for food assistance benefits due to the Minnesota Department of Human Services' deadline extension.
Up to 150,000 families have until July 31 to apply for "pandemic-electronic benefit transfer," also referred to as P-EBT, a news release from the human services department said.
Families receive a lump sum on an P-EBT card from the human services department of $325 per child to purchase food within a year of the date issued.
In August, the department will also issue additional summer program funds of $100 per child. Families of children enrolled in a school district's pre-K program who received free and reduced-price lunch can now apply for P-EBT benefits.
Minnesota encourages families with children who received free and reduced-price lunch to apply for the program online at mn.p-ebt.org/en . Families with qualifying children that are already on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance program or the Minnesota Family Investment program received these benefits automatically on their EBT cards in late May.
