The fourth in a series of eight public informational meetings on an operating levy referendum proposed for the St. Louis County school system will be at 5:30 p.m. today at Tower-Soudan School.

The Nov. 6 operating referendum would generate about $1.3 million annually for 10 years.

According to the district, funds generated from the referendum would be used to maintain average class sizes of 25 students or fewer in elementary grades and 30 or fewer in secondary grades.

The money also would purchase classroom materials such as textbooks, expand computer and technical opportunities for students and staff members, offer additional secondary courses, create a comprehensive elementary physical education program, expand educational programs for children ages 4-6, promote a safe school environment, install building camera security systems, upgrade communications equipment and buy new school buses.

Additional public meetings are Oct. 15 at the ISD 2142 district office in Virginia, Oct. 16 at Cherry School, Oct. 23 at Cook School, and Oct. 25 at AlBrook School. All of these meetings are at 6 p.m.
