Mayor: Chester Bowl ski hill will open this winter

Duluth Mayor Don Ness said today that an agreement between a Chester Bowl volunteer group and the city will allow the in-town ski hill to operate this winter.

Duluth Mayor Don Ness said today that an agreement between a Chester Bowl volunteer group and the city will allow the in-town ski hill to operate this winter.

The Chester Bowl Improvement Club has accepted most of the operational responsibilities at the hill and will hire a manager, according to a city news release.

"All across our city, neighborhood groups and non-profit organizations are showing leadership and initiative on behalf of our parks," Ness said in the news release. "I'm convinced that these efforts will not only restore services, but the renewed partnerships will strengthen our recreational programming in Duluth."

The club provides lessons, races and special events at the "bowl."
