The Duluth federal court retrial of the first music file-sharing case ever to reach a jury has been postponed to May, with both sides ordered to attend a two-day settlement conference before then.
U.S. District Court Chief Judge Michael J. Davis on Monday granted a continuance requested by Brian Toder, the lawyer representing Brainerd's Jammie Thomas, to move the trial from March 9 to May 11, according to court papers. Davis also ordered Thomas' camp and the recording industry plaintiffs to attend a two-day settlement conference in his Minneapolis chambers on March 30 and 31.
In October 2007, Thomas was ordered to pay recording companies $220,000 for illegally downloading music. Davis set aside the judgment last summer, saying he had erred in issuing jury instructions.
