A 31-year-old man is in custody after allegedly stabbing a family member at a Grand Rapids residence early Wednesday.

Officers were called to a residence on the 900 block of Northwest Eighth Street at 1:47 a.m. on the report of a stabbing, the Grand Rapids Police Department said in a news release.

Sgt. Robert Stein said a 35-year-old man had been stabbed multiple times after a domestic argument turned violent.

"They had some sort of argument," Stein said. "It's hard to tell what it was about, but it got violent."

Police said the victim, whom they did not identify, was taken to Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital and later transported to Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth for treatment of multiple stab wounds. He was expected to survive, Stein said.
