A kayaker was brought to safety after spending an hour in Wild Rice Lake on Thursday evening.

Tim Isaacson of the Rice Lake Volunteer Fire Department said the kayaker, a20-year-old man from the area, capsized in the northeast end of the lake and became entangled in reeds. He was wearing a life jacket at the time.

His empty kayak washed up on shore. The lake is north of Duluth.

The man was found by a member of the volunteer fire department, who took to the lake in his personal boat.

Tom Crossmon of the St. Louis County Rescue Squad said the kayaker was alert and talking when pulled from the lake.
