A Pine County man was injured Friday when his motorcycle struck a bear on Interstate 35.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported that Edmund Hanson, 48, of Brook Park was traveling north on I-35 near Pine City at about 5 p.m. Friday when he struck the bear. Hanson, who was wearing full protective gear, flew off the 2003 Kawasaki motorcycle, authorities said.

He was airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, Minn., but the Patrol reported that his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The bear was killed in the crash, authorities said.
