Duluth police officers interviewed witnesses outside The Last Place on Earth on Tuesday afternoon after a man was injured in what is being termed an assault.

Duluth police were called to the 100 block of East Superior Street at 4:23 p.m. after a report that two men got into an altercation in front of a parked car and one man ended up falling unconscious to the street. The man allegedly hit him and then fled the scene, and police were still looking for him Tuesday night.

A woman sitting in her vehicle at the traffic light witnessed the assault and called 911, saying a man hit another man who then fell hard. She said there was a lot of blood and she called 911 because she feared a serious injury.

The injured 48-year-old man was taken by ambulance to Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center, police said.

The incident remains under investigation.
