A man is in custody and the Cloquet Police Department is investigating a "suspicious" death after responding to a report of an unwanted person in an apartment at a home for veterans early Tuesday morning.

The Fond du Lac Police Department also responded to the call shortly after 2 a.m., according to a news release from Cloquet police. When officers arrived to 1569 Zhimaaganishag Road, there was an unresponsive man in the caller's apartment.

Medics attempted lifesaving efforts, but the man was determined dead at the scene.

"The circumstances surrounding the death of the man are suspicious in nature, and the incident is currently under investigation," the release said.

The News Tribune doesn't typically name suspects until they have been formally charged.
