A naked man was found lying on the ground in Virginia burned on approximately half of his body early this morning, and a 38-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Virginia Police Chief Dana Waldron said it appears that an accelerant -- perhaps gasoline -- was used in the attack. The 21-year-old man was found lying in the 200 block of First Street North about 5:20 a.m. Clothing found nearby was still smoldering.
The victim was transported to the Virginia Regional Medical Center and later to the Miller-Dwan burn center in Duluth. His condition was unknown.
Virginia police arrested the suspect about 6 p.m. He's being held on a preliminary charge of first-degree assault.
Waldron said the victim's name wasn't being released until his relatives could be notified. He said Virginia police continue to investigate the incident and ask anyone with information to call (218) 748-7510.
