A 34-year-old man fell to his death from the 10th floor of a downtown Duluth apartment building Thursday evening.

Duluth police said they were called to Gateway Tower, 600 W. Superior St., at 6:26 p.m. Thursday with a report that a man was making suicide threats. Police arrived and closed off Michigan Street adjacent to the apartment building. When they arrived, the man had his head out of a 10th-floor window.

As officers talked to the man from the ground, other officers tried to reach the man's apartment. But before they arrived, the man either jumped or fell to his death.

Police said the death may be ruled accidental, because the man appeared to change his mind, tried to hold on to the window and called for help before falling.

Foul play has been ruled out, police said.
