Man faces burglary, assault charges after police chase

A 22-year-old man was arrested Saturday on preliminary charges of first-degree burglary, fourth-degree assault on a police office and motor vehicle tampering.

A 22-year-old man was arrested Saturday on preliminary charges of first-degree burglary, fourth-degree assault on a police office and motor vehicle tampering.
The Hermantown Police Department reported that the incident began when a Proctor police officer responded to a call about suspicious activity on First Street between North Boundary and North First avenues at 11:57 a.m. Saturday. A resident reported that a man had been on their deck and trying the door handle of a neighbor’s home. Another resident reported that the man threw a rock at them as they drove by, according to Hermantown police.
The man was located and was uncooperative with the Proctor police officer, throwing a large rock at him and fleeing, according to Hermantown police. The officer pursued the man on foot through a heavily wooded area and Hermantown police set up a perimeter. A Hermantown police officer saw the suspect cross north in the 8200 block of the St. Louis River Road and pursued the man by foot. During the pursuit, the man was seen entering and then leaving a home, according to Hermantown police.
The incident ended at 1:02 p.m. Saturday in the yard of a residence on Little Creek Place in Hermantown. No was injured in the incident.
