Man drowns in Lake Namakagon

A 69-year-old man drowned on Friday when he fell out of a boat in Lake Namakagon, officials said.

The Bayfield County Sheriff's Office reported the incident happened at 3:30 p.m. in the lake in the southern part of the county. The victim's fishing partner tried to help him, but he disappeared under the water.

The victim, whose name has not been released, is from the Madison area.

Sheriff's Office deputies, the Namakagon Fire Department, Great Divide Ambulance Service, Sawyer County Dive Team, Life Link II helicopter and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources searched for the body. The search was called off because of darkness and was to resume this morning.
