A Minnesota man was found dead after a kayaking accident on Friday in the Apostle Islands area.

The Coast Guard station in Bayfield reported a 45-year-old man was separated from the friend he was kayaking with on Friday and was reported missing. The pair were headed to Sand Island and became caught in inclement weather.

The kayaker, who was wearing a life vest and wetsuit, was found dead in the Justice Bay area of Sand Island. The Coast Guard did not release his name.

Two boats from the Coast Guard Bayfield Station, two helicopters from the Coast Guard's Traverse City, Mich., Air Station, a Canadian Coast Guard C-130 aircraft from Winnipeg, Manitoba, the National Park Service and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources were involved in the search. Winds, high seas and low visibility hampered the search, the Coast Guard said.
