Man dies in Cloquet house fire

A 23-year-old man died in an early morning fire in Cloquet on Saturday.
The Cloquet Police Department identified Preston Jerald Alaspa of Cloquet as the victim in a fire at 248 Tyler Drive on the Fond du Lac Reservation.
Police said officers arrived at 2 a.m. to find the multi-level home engulfed in flames. The Cloquet Area Fire District, along with several neighboring fire departments, assisted in extinguishing the flames. They found the victim inside the house, and he later was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other occupant of the house, the 47-year-old homeowner, was taken to Community Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released.
It is not believed foul play was associated with the death, police said. However, the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting in the investigation of the fire’s cause.
