A 36-year-old Rogers, Minn. man died from exposure after spending some time on the ice of Leech Lake, the Cass County Sheriff's Department reported this morning.
Bradley Erikson was found on the ice about 8:30 a.m. Sunday but was not responsive. He was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Park Rapids, Minn., where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities said Erikson had been camping in the Sand Point area of Leech Lake. He had gone into Walker, Minn., Saturday night and left Walker to return to the campsite when his pickup truck broke through thin ice.
Erikson swam across the channel and then attempted to walk to his campsite. But he never made it, collapsing on the ice. He was located by deputies after a Minnesota conservation office discovered the partially submerged truck.
