A man died in a truck accident early Saturday morning.

Just before 2 a.m., the Duluth Police and Fire departments and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to an accident in the 2400 block of Jean Duluth Road.

A police officer arrived at the scene first and found a heavily damaged pickup truck that had crashed into a utility pole. The cab of the truck was on fire, and the police officer was unable to put out the fire with a handheld extinguisher. Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire with water.

The lone male passenger inside the truck, which had been eastbound, was dead at the scene. The victim's name, age and city of residence had not been announced Saturday evening. The accident remains under investigation.

The accident caused a power outage in the area, but service has been restored.
