The man accused of driving on the Northland County Club golf course earlier this week was released on bail Friday.

Judge Gerald C. Martin had set bail at $3,500 Friday morning for Steven Pechan Hynum, 21, of Duluth. Hynum's next court appearance is set for Oct. 16.

Hynum is charged with one count of felony damage to property and three misdemeanor counts: driving under the influence, driving while impaired and possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle.

The maximum penalty for the felony is five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The maximum penalty for each misdemeanor is 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Police arrested Hynum early Wednesday after someone reported a vehicle driving on the course. The vehicle tore up the 16th green, causing several thousand dollars of damage.

When officers arrived in the area, a 1996 Tacoma pickup truck fled the scene. One officer was able to read the truck's license plate number, however, and officers were sent to the home of the registered owner in the area of Livingston Avenue and Park Street. Police arrested Hynum when he arrived.

According to the criminal complaint, filed Thursday, a preliminary breath test conducted when Hynum was arrested indicated a blood alcohol concentration of .133 percent -- more than .05 percent over Minnesota's legal limit to drive.
