Duluth Police arrested a man following a standoff Wednesday evening.

Around 7:17 p.m. officers were sent to the area of Seventh Avenue East and Sixth Street after receiving a report of the sound of shots fired. Officers found a spent shell casing in the driveway of a residence in the 500 block of North Seventh Avenue East. Investigation led officers to believe that an 18-year-old man living on the block had shot a gun after an altercation with a relative.

The suspect refused to leave the house when officers asked him to do so. Police then set up a perimeter and the Minnesota State Patrol provided a helicopter, which used its spotlight to illuminate the scene. Police established phone contact with the suspect, who ultimately left the house and was arrested at 11:46 p.m. without incident.

The suspect was taken to the Saint Louis County jail on a felony charge of reckless discharge of a firearm and for underage consumption of alcohol.
