Man airlifted after Little Sturgeon Lake personal watercraft collision

Alcohol is believed to be factor.

A 28-year old Hibbing man was airlifted to Duluth and a Hibbing woman was taken by ambulance to Virginia after their personal watercraft collided with another personal watercraft on Little Sturgeon Lake on Friday.

According to the St. Louis County Sheriff's Department, the Hibbing man and woman were riding east on a personal watercraft at about 3:03 p.m. when they turned right towards shore and were struck by a 37-year-old Chisholm man heading east on a personal watercraft.

The riders were ejected from their personal watercrafts.

The Hibbing man was airlifted to Essentia Health in Duluth with a left leg injury and the Hibbing woman was taken by ambulance to Essentia Health in Virginia with a left leg injury. The Chisholm man was uninjured, the sheriff's office said.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor and the crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's office.

Names are being withheld pending family notification and formal charges, the sheriff's office said.

Little Sturgeon Lake is located north of Hibbing near Side Lake and is in French Township.
