A man was arraigned Friday in Duluth on charges that he robbed a woman who gave him a ride from a grocery store.

Isaac Louis Johnson, 24, address unknown, is charged with first-degree aggravated robbery and simple robbery in connection with the April 12 incident.

The accuser said three men, whom she had met before, asked her for a ride from the Duluth store. When she arrived at their destination, a man sitting directly behind her placed his arm around her neck and grabbed her purse. All three men fled.

Investigator Rodney Wilson of the Duluth Police Violent Crimes Unit reviewed robbery reports and used the description of the men that the victim provided to put together a photo lineup of six people. The woman picked out one man.

That man was questioned by police and he said that Johnson took the woman's purse. He said neither he nor his brother, who also was along, had any idea that Johnson intended to rob the woman.

Johnson has five prior felony convictions and is a suspect in a similar strong-arm robbery, according to a memo St. Louis County prosecutor Vern Swanum provided to the court.

The defendant was being held in the St. Louis County Jail on $25,000 bail.
