A 23-year-old Duluth man faces three felony charges after allegedly threatening two people with an assault rifle Wednesday night in West Duluth.
Deangelo Terrell Davis is charged with two counts of second-degree assault and one count of possessing a firearm with a missing or altered serial number. Officers were called to the 600 block of North 58th Avenue West at about 4:15 p.m. Wednesday. Authorities said two victims reported that the suspect, who was known to them, pulled up in a gold and brown Cadillac and separately threatened both with an assault rifle. The victims explained that the suspect was questioning them about who might have been involved in a fight with "his girl," according to a criminal complaint. Officers identified the suspect as Davis and located a matching Cadillac vehicle outside a residence near Third Street and 12th Avenue East. The driver's door was left open and the car was warm, indicating it had recently been driven, according to the complaint. Police executed a search warrant at Davis' residence and found a loaded Hi-Point brand 9 mm assault rifle between the mattress and box spring of his bed, the complaint said. Officers said the serial number had been scratched off the weapon, which appeared to be fully automatic and fully functional. Authorities said a "substantial quantity of controlled substances" also were found in the Cadillac, but testing had not yet been completed. Police said the two victims were able to identify Davis through an in-person "show-up" viewing, with one victim suffering a panic attack from the "traumatic nature" of the assault, according to the complaint. Judge Theresa Neo set Davis' bail at $100,000 on Friday. If convicted, he faces a maximum of seven years in prison on each assault charge and five years on the firearm charge. Davis is due back in court on Aug. 3.A 23-year-old Duluth man faces three felony charges after allegedly threatening two people with an assault rifle Wednesday night in West Duluth.
