The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office has received several reports of a phone scam in the Virginia area. The scam involves a person being phoned and told that they have won a million dollar lottery. The caller then is told to furnish a credit card or bank account number to pay for the transfer of money or so the transfer of money can be placed into their account.

The Sheriff's Office believe the scams are originating from Florida, Jamaica or elsewhere overseas and seem to be targeting the elderly.

The Sheriff's Office reminds the public that they should not give out personal information such as a bank account, credit card or Social Security number to anyone asking for this information under similar circumstances.
