VIRGINIA — Police received a report at about 6:50 a.m. Friday that someone had jumped off the Thomas Rukavina Memorial Bridge on Highway 53. Once on the scene, officers found an unoccupied vehicle parked on the shoulder of the northbound traffic lane.
A review of bridge traffic cameras led them to conclude that a 62-year-old woman leaped to her death shortly after 6 a.m. She was pronounced dead on the scene. A police release said: "It is not believed anyone else was involved in the incident."
Nevertheless, the incident remains under investigation, according to authorities.
The identity of the deceased woman has not yet been made public, pending notification of family members.
