Grand Marais woman dies in automobile crash

A 79-year-old woman from Grand Marais died after her vehicle struck a tree Tuesday afternoon.

GRAND MARAIS — A 79-year-old Grand Marais woman was killed in an automobile crash Tuesday afternoon on Minnesota Highway 61 and County Road 14, according to a report from the Minnesota State Patrol.

Barbara Helen Wright was driving east on Highway 61 around 4:20 p.m. when she made a left turn onto County Road 14. The vehicle, a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Sport, then traveled across County Road 14 and struck a large pine tree with its front bumper, killing Wright.

Responding agencies included the Colvill and Hovland fire departments and first responders, as well as the Cook County Sheriff's Department and ambulance and rescue.
