CHERRY — A 71-year-old Gilbert man died after his motorcycle collided with a Chevy Equinox on state Highway 37 and County Road 5 in Cherry Township on Saturday afternoon.

Around 1:42 p.m., according to a report from Minnesota State Patrol, Leroy Robert Sausman was traveling west on Highway 37 approaching County Road 5. The Chevy Equinox, driven by Tyler Wayne Voight Cameron, 33, of Chisholm, was stopped at a stop sign while southbound on County Road 5. The Equinox began making a left turn onto Highway 37 and pulled out into the path of the oncoming motorcycle.

Sausman, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, was transported to St. Luke's hospital in Duluth, but pronounced dead. Cameron and his three passengers didn't report any injuries from the collision.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "staff." Often, the "staff" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
