DULUTH — Famous Dave's in Duluth will close its Canal Park location Monday, pack up and move up the hill to Hermantown.

The barbecue restaurant, currently at 355 S. Lake Ave., is set to reopen Nov. 1 at 4135 Richard Ave. near Sam's Club.

As the News Tribune reported in July, the Canal Park restaurant is nearing the end of its lease and decided to move to focus on local, instead of tourist, customers.

"When an opportunity presented itself to relocate the restaurant to a new location that would be even more accessible for local Duluth residents, owner and operator Greg Toon eagerly said yes," the restaurant said in a news release Friday.

The barbeque chain opened its Canal Park location in 2002.

The first Famous Dave's opened in 1994 in Hayward, Wisconsin and grew into a nationwide, publicly-traded chain.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "staff." Often, the "staff" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
