  • Reserve Mining Co. officials have extended the company's layoffs, which were originally scheduled to end today, for another two weeks. And in two weeks, the number of the 2,200 laid-off workers called back will be several hundred fewer than expected.
  • The replica Viking ship Hjemkomst will be officially launched this Thursday from Duluth but then may stop in Knife River for some last-minute preparations before sailing to Norway. The Hjemkomst — Norwegian for "homecoming" — was built by the late Robert Asp of Hawley, Minnesota.

  • The Duluth Aero Club has proposed making Anderson Field, 12 miles from the center of Duluth, into a flying field for the area. Anderson Field is smooth and fairly level and is bounded on one side by Pike Lake.
  • The Duluth Retail Merchants Association is urging its members to support the city in obtaining the right-of-way between Railroad and Commerce streets for a route to draw traffic off Superior Street. The Duluth Chamber of Commerce is also seeking the completion of this route.
