- Former Minnesota Gov. Rudy Perpich was in Duluth yesterday to open his local campaign headquarters at 122 W. First St. Perpich said he has collected $20,000 for his campaign for governor and estimates he will need another $150,000.
- Duluth Mayor John Fedo will ask the City Council next week to approve spending $400,000 from a federal grant to hire 347 residents in a short-term jobs program. Fedo has already received $100,000 for the program from the McKnight Foundation.

- Lake Shore Park at London Road and 12th Avenue East is being made level with London Road. The property has been three feet below grade, and the filling-in process will be completed within three weeks, according to Capt. Henry Cleveland, parks superintendent.
- Commencement exercises for 13 seniors in the first graduating class of Morgan Park High School will take place June 14, it was announced yesterday. The baccalaureate sermon will be preached by Rev. Charles W. Ramshaw, pastor of United Protestant Church in Morgan Park.
