  • Midstate Airlines will begin offering round-trip passenger service between Duluth and Minneapolis on Aug. 15. The service will offer flights leaving Duluth Monday through Friday at 9:35 a.m., 2:20 p.m., and 5:20 p.m. with a one-way standard fare of $105.
  • The crew of the Viking ship Hjemkomst is preparing for arrival in Bergen, Norway, sometime between July 13 and July 18. The ship has traveled almost 3,500 nautical miles since it left Duluth and is about 1,750 miles from Norway.

  • After a week marked by a number of traffic accidents, Duluth Public Safety Commissioner W.F. Murnian yesterday appealed for greater safety measures. Murnian said the shortage of police personnel is handicapping the department's ability to curb recklessness by motor vehicle drivers.
  • The increase in iron ore shipments from the Head of the Lakes to lower ports for June compared to last June was 2,295,374 tons. The total amount of iron ore tonnage shipped from the Head of the Lakes for June was 5,718,637 tons.
