  • Federal officials yesterday agreed to extend Duluth's foreign trade zone to include 29 acres in the Airpark, providing a haven from U.S. duties on imports. Several high-tech companies that use air transportation have expressed an interest in building in the Airpark.
  • Clothes and props from the movie "Wildrose" will be sold at a rummage sale in Eveleth today. "Wildrose," a fictional account of a female miner on the Iron Range, was filmed on the Range and in Bayfield, Wisconsin.

  • The sale of 66,500 acres of Isle Royale was completed in Duluth this week by the Minnesota Forest Products Company, the purchaser, from the Island Copper Company. The land represents a substantial part of Isle Royale that is covered with virgin timber.
  • An estimated 30,000 people participated last night in the official opening of the West Duluth White Way. At 8 p.m. sharp, Grace Seymour, queen of the celebration, flipped the switch that flooded West Duluth's business district with light.
