  • Eric Ringsred, who chairs re-Turn Our Old Tone (TOOT), said yesterday plans for installation of a diaphone foghorn in Duluth seem to be near completion. Ringsred said the group hopes to have the horn installed by the end of the month.
  • Five community projects will receive a total of $612,500 from the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board under a recommendation being prepared for Gov. Al Quie and the Legislative Advisory Commission. The money will be distributed to Babbitt, Eveleth, Gilbert, McKinley, and Nashwauk.

  • Duluth today faces one of the most important school elections in the history of the city. Four seats on the Board of Education are open, and in addition voters will decide on a $500,000 bond issue for purchase of sites for high schools.
  • Many organizations in Duluth will be represented at a meeting next week to discuss the municipal golf course project. Following the meeting, the representatives will visit some city-owned properties that are considered appropriate for a golf course.
