  • In three weeks, officials of Northwood Children's Home in Duluth expect to complete a $650,000 expansion, including a new classroom wing. Completion of the new wing will more than double the classroom space available in the residential treatment center at 714 College St.
  • Beginning today, Duluth's Twins Bar-Pabst touch football team is competing in the World Touch Football Tournament in Milwaukee. The team won the Minnesota Recreational Sports Federation championship last weekend, beating longtime rival Halek's of Minneapolis in the finals.

  • The Bethel Society, First Street and Mesaba Avenue, has entered its 50th year of service to the poor and needy of Duluth. The society, which governs the Bethel Home for Men and the Bethel Home for Women, is one of the oldest charitable organizations in the city.
  • West Duluth this afternoon will celebrate the fourth anniversary of the signing of the armistice of the World War. The program at the West Duluth YMCA will honor the Gold Star men of West Duluth who made the supreme sacrifice.
