  • Greg Sertich has announced that he will seek reelection to his fifth term as St. Louis County Sheriff. Sertich was first elected in 1966 after serving more than 10 years with the Virginia Police Department.
  • Steve Stojevich won the 39th Reidar Lund Memorial-Skyline tournament at Duluth's Enger Park Golf Course yesterday by shooting a 54-hole tournament record of 206, 10 under par. The previous record was 207, held by Jeff Krummel and Dave Hicks.

  • The Duluth Engineers Club yesterday recommended an immediate investigation of the entire sewage and water system of Duluth after traces of contamination were found in city water. The club also recommended that the city cover the presently uncovered reservoirs as rapidly as possible.
  • About 1,500 peonies are on exhibit at the seventh-annual Peony Show which opened yesterday in the First National Bank of Duluth. John Kleitsch won the silver loving cup, awarded annually by the Duluth Chamber of Commerce for the best collection at the show.
