News Tribune, Aug. 12, 1982

  • The Duluth School Board yesterday voted to combine the athletic programs at Denfeld and Morgan Park high schools. Board member Richard Braun said the change will allow Morgan Park students to compete in sports that otherwise might have been eliminated at their school.
  • A final decision hasn't been made, but the Ice Capades, which has rehearsed its last 16 shows in Duluth, may not be back next year. Ice Capades currently rehearses three different touring companies in three locations during August and could save money by combining them.

  • Charles Fraker, formerly of Duluth, yesterday won the Head of the Lakes tennis trophy at the Longview Tennis Club by defeating defending champion William Knight of Minneapolis in the finals. Fraker took an early lead over Knight which the older player could not overcome.
  • A new traveling music library will be instituted in the rural St. Louis County schools when they open in September. The music will be provided through a traveling phonograph record collection similar to the traveling book libraries now in vogue.
