The storms ran from north of the Ontario border through Ely and Hibbing, Floodwood and down to St. Cloud at 4:30 p.m. and were heading east at about 35 mph. The strongest storms stretched from near Floodwood to near Finlayson.
The storms are expected to hit the Twin Ports just after 5 p.m.
The National Weather Service in Duluth has not issued any warnings but released an advisory saying the storms will produce pea-sized hail, wind gust to more than 40 mph, frequent lightning and brief downpours of as much as one inch of rain in some areas. The storms are not expected to last long.
