A line of strong thunderstorms was sagging south across the Northland this evening with the Twin Ports apparently in the clear by 7:30 but severe storms still moving across Pine, Burnett, southern Douglas, Bayfield, Ashland and Iron Counties.

Tornado warnings were in effect for Iron County in Wisconsin and adjacent areas of the Upper Peninsula near Hurley and Ironwood.

No serious injuries or damage was reported from the storms, but heavy rain -- up to 2 inches near Hinckley -- was common across the area as a cold front spurred storms across the region late in the afternoon and early evening.

Hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter was reported near Mellen and Bayfield, with 1.25 inch hail near Procotr.

Some Duluth city streets were briefly flooded as more than an inch of rain fell quickly. Trees and powerlines were down near Trego and Bayfield.
