Lightning struck a home in Rice Lake Township causing a fire this evening, firefighters said.

Rice Lake Volunteer Fire Department firefighters were called to 4370 Kingston Road at 7:30 p.m. for a report that lightning had struck a house and smoke could be seen coming from it, according to Fire Chief Matt Frantz.

Firefighters saw smoke coming from the eaves, went into an upstairs bedroom and opened the wall to get at the fire, Franz said. They were able to put the fire out and Franz estimated the damage to the home at $20,000.
