The University of Minnesota Duluth hosts a national traveling exhibit beginning next week.

"Lewis and Clark and the Indian Country" opens Monday and runs through Feb. 25 in the UMD Library. It tells the story of the explorers' historic 1804-1806 expedition from the point of view of the Indians who lived along the route.

UMD was chosen as one of 27 sites for the free exhibit.

An opening ceremony is at 6 p.m. Jan. 15, and will include traditional drumming, prayer and speakers in the Weber Music Hall.

The exhibit draws upon original documents from the American Indian collections of the Newberry Library in Chicago and the Minnesota and Washington state historical societies.
